Self-lifting floating drilling rig

As part of the development of the Caspian Sea, JSC NC "KazMunayGas" decided to build a Jack-Up Drilling Rig (JUDR).

In 2012, a contract was signed between Temiz Burgylau LLP (KMG Drilling&Services LLP) and a consortium consisting of "Keppel Kazakhstan" LLP and "Ersai Caspian Contractor" LLP, for the turnkey construction of the first self-lifting floating drilling rig in Kazakhstan called "Satti" (Satti).

The "Satti" drilling rig belongs to the Keppel FELS B class construction and is a self-lifting drilling rig on 3 supports. The installation is designed for the construction of oil and gas wells with a depth of up to 6,000 m at water depths from 5 to 80 m. The project documentation has been approved by the authorized bodies of the Republic of Kazakhstan and with classification societies: the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS).

The Satti drilling rig was built using American technologies for three years at two shipyards – at Keppel Kazakhstan LLP on the territory of the Aktau Seaport SEZ, with final assembly at Ersai Caspian Contractor LLP.

The construction of the JUDR, as well as the creation of the first Kazakh offshore drilling company, contributed to the creation of the domestic sphere of offshore drilling services.

In January 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between NC KazMunayGas and SOCAR in the field of oil and gas industry and one of the projects of this cooperation is the joint use of JUDR for drilling at British Petroleum (BP) and SOCAR projects in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

In February 2019, the JUDR was deployed in Baku for modification to meet the technical requirements of BP with subsequent operation during drilling operations in Azerbaijan, at the Absheron (2 wells) and Babek projects.
